Tennessee Financial Aid

Tennessee Student Assistance Awards - The Tennessee Student Assistance Award Program was established by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1976. The purpose of the program is to provide non-repayable financial assistance to financially needy undergraduate students who are residents of Tennessee and are enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at a public or an eligible non-public post secondary educational institution in Tennessee. Student must be enrolled at least half-time. Based on funding, first priority is given to U.S. citizens.

 

Ned McWherter Scholars Program - The Ned McWherter Scholars Program is intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Recent Tennessee high school graduates and those starting their last semester in high school who have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and an ACT or SAT score in the top 5% nationally and who are Tennessee residents (and whose parents are also Tennessee residents) are eligible to apply. Student must be a U.S. citizen and attend school full time.

Christa McAuliffe Scholarship Program - The Tennessee General Assembly created a scholarship program to honor the memory of Christa McAuliffe. The scholarship program was established to encourage promising Tennesseans who have a commitment to teaching and inspiring young minds to explore and achieve their highest potential

Dependent Children Scholarship Program - The Dependent Children Scholarship Program provides aid for Tennessee residents who are dependent children of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician who has been killed or totally and permanently disabled while performing duties within the scope of such employment.

Minority Teaching Fellows Program - The Tennessee General Assembly established the Minority Teaching Fellows Program in 1989 to attract talented minority Tennesseans to enter the teaching field. The award is for $5,000 per year to pursue a teacher certification. Those who receive the award incur an obligation to teach at some K-12 level in a Tennessee public school one year for each year the award is received.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program - Tennessee residents who meet citizenship requirements and who will be graduating from high school in the senior year, or received a GED, are eligible for this federally funded scholarship, whether or not they attended high school in Tennessee.

Tennessee Teaching Scholars Program - This program is designed to encourage exemplary students who are Tennessee residents and US citizens to enter the teaching field. Participation is limited to college juniors, seniors, and post baccalaureate candidates admitted to a state approved teacher education program at an eligible Tennessee College or University.
