The Frank O'Neill Memorial Scholarship was set up to remember a great man. Frank knew the meaning of hard work; he was born in the 1880s to an immigrant family from County Galway, Ireland. He started working for the Erie Railroad at age 12 in the garage. He worked his way all the up to a job as an engineer. He worked the route from Cleveland, OH to Meadville, PA. One day on the route, a bar from one side of the steam engine came off and went though the boiler and scalded Frank. He still was able to stop the train and divert a certain disaster. Unfortunately, he died three days later in a Cleveland hospital. Frank never had the opportunity for a quality education. The Frank O'Neill Memorial Scholarship is here to help someone who does have the chance to go to school. |
